Because I never do things the easy way…
So, yesterday I had robotic laparoscopic hernia repair, to close up the hernia(s) that developed along the incision from last January’s surgery. Normally a simply laparoscopy requires 3 punctures across the abdomen. Mine required SIX and they’d got me all held together with a ‘binder’. He told me that it may seem like there is still a hernia bulging out, but it’s just the swelling and perhaps fluid build-up in the space between the muscles and the skin. The binder is to help minimize that. And I’m supposed to wear the binder most of the time.

Now, I can tell you right now that this is NOT at all what the previous surgery was like. I wasn’t sleeping well in the night at the hospital, so I started walking laps around my hospital floor. I guess I made 6 or 7 laps all together.
The dr. said I could stay a second night but it would be up to me. I decided to come home. Once I got the Happy Meds, and I was already up and walking, there wasn’t much point in staying there, not much they could do for me. And I had not arranged anyone to take care of BigBoy overnight, and two nights would have been a lot for him, especially since Two-ie had just died. I didn’t want BigBoy to feel utterly abandoned.
I will say that I am sore as can be. I can’t tell if it is gas bubbles (they fill the abdominal cavity with CO2 to inflate it and see all the places that needed repairs), or if it is the actual muscles where they sewed in the patches and anchored them. Either way it hurts to cough, sneeze, hiccup, sit down, stand up, walk …. If I get a pain-free position, I can nearly fall asleep but I’ve slept much of the last 24 hours and I’m not really sleepy at the moment. And it is nearly time for more Happy Meds. 🙂
He told me not to pick up anything over a couple pounds for at least four weeks, and then to start slowly after that. This will absolutely be a challenge, but we’ll see how it goes.
