I wish I understood my body
It is nearly midnight now as I start to type. I went to bed around 11:00, thinking the pain would subside. It got worse, so I’m sitting up again. At this moment, the pain is not as bad as it was a little while ago, but it’s still a 4 or 5. It comes in waves. My body is so fucked up.
This morning I reported I had a pretty good blood glucose reading when I got up. At noon I had half of the Triple Happiness dinner with about half of the fried rice that came with it. Two hours later, my blood glucose was 337. YIKES! For supper I had the rest of the Triple Happiness but only about a tablespoon or two of the remaining fried rice. Over the next two hours I did a little stand-up work, a little physical exercise (squats, jogging in place), and then tested again — back down to 162. Good but not great. And before lunch and dinner, of course, I did take my insulin shots
So… eliminate the rice and increase physical activity. Got it. (ABLE – Another Blasted Learning Experience)
There are multiple things going on, mostly (probably) related one way or another to the diabetes. There is the peripheral neuropathy, the gastro-intestinal stuff, and some involvement of the bladder/prostate area which is where most of the painful pain emanates. I see the urologist on Dec 10 and I hope he can pinpoint the problem. There’s also some non-painful stuff that needs to be checked out in the male bits, also likely due to the diabetes, but when I started taking Tamsulosin again (for BPH, so I could pee normally), other things happened that are quite unexpected. I’ll find out soon enough. (For younger men who haven’t been told — things change down there in surprising ways!)
Mostly I want the pain to stop, but I also need to address the causes of these various pains. Once these issues are dealt with I can think about my hips, as well as the slightly wrenched shoulder. I did mention these to the Dr., but he didn’t send me right away to an orthopedist or rheumatologist or something. First he wanted to address the diabetes and get that under control, since diabetes can seriously fuck up all sorts of other things. Gawd, I’m such a mess.
Surprisingly, my hip hasn’t actually given me much grief in recent months, which is a good thing. But it’s an ongoing chronic issue over the years, so I do want to find out eventually what’s going on.
The worst of the pain is subsiding now, so I’ll try to head off to bed soon. It seems counterintuitive, but since I’ve not had coffee since noon, this cup of coffee is helping me relax and get more comfortable. And maybe the 3 ibuprofen I took 2 hours ago are finally kicking in, too? Hell, I don’t know.
