Coming Out — is it worth it?
Wow… I just saw Russ’s video from last month. His dad is getting married again, and Russ was not invited, because he’s out.
And yeah, it DOES suck to be actively excluded from what would be a family event, because you have come out as gay, or atheist, or other-political-party, non-drinker, whatever.
If you are excluded because you don’t fit the expectations of this or that in-group (family, neighbors, office clique, etc.) it does suck, but you are honestly and openly YOU. And being excluded from a circle leaves you open to be surrounded by those who DO want you, who DO think you matter, just as you are.
And, really, it is better to be accepted for who you really are, than rejected for not fitting in.
Plus, it sucks to learn/realize that your kith and kin are a bunch of bigots.
The guy in this vid seems really likable.
