This is why we laugh at Christians — 42 Comments

  1. The law of physics belongs to God even the God of Truth! All things are possible to them that believe and if it pleases God to do something then He shall do just that ,I may sound like a foolish person but the Universe as vast as we think we know it came about by God speaking it into being. When the Truth enters into your heart then you will be free

    • Oh that’s cute. The laws of the physical world belong to no one. I have no evidence to suggest that the God you believe exists in reality. Without such evidence, you ARE a fool.

      • I’m more interested to know where the story originated. The background for the story, etc.

As for whether the vehicle traveled without an engine, I can’t comment. It seems highly improbable. It would require some other means of power driving the vehicle.

It’s a lovely story that reminds me of Feynman’s tale of the clock that stopped at the moment of his wife’s death. Whether the clock actually stopped due to the nurse entering the room or the

      • You want evidence, go on youtube (Charlie campbell evidence of God). 2Peter3:3-4 First, I want to remind you that in the last days there will be scoffers who will laugh at the truth and do every evil thing they desire. This will be their argument: ” Jesus promised to come back, did he? Then where is he? Why, as far back as anyone can remember, everything has remained exactly the same since the world was first created” 2Peter3:8-10 But you must not forget, dear friends, that a day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise to return, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to perish, so he is giving more time for everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a theif. Then the heavens(sky) will pass away with a terrible noise, and everything in them will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be exposed to judgement.*

    • Amen!!! I agree with you brother. Our God is amazing isnt He? Remember what our Lord Jesus says when they ridicule you they ridicule Me. Peace be with you brother!!!!

  2. If this story were told with the words “God” and “Christianity/Christian” replaced with “Allah” and “Islam/Muslim” then you know the fundies couldn’t deny it fast enough.

  3. I pitty for those who doubts God’s existence, He created the Heavens and Earth. Did u think we came out frm nowhere? God created us, He is the God of impossibilities. I have seen women without wombs that gave to children. If u get to knw him, u will knw what am talking about.

    • No one is saying we came out of nowhere. That doesn’t mean The Hebrew God created existence, and everything happened EXACTLY like it did in the Bible. That belief is no less absurd than the Greek mythology. It’s all mysticism, sleight of hand, and science. Existence itself, is not proof of a God of any kind. Religion likes to assert the truth, whereas with SCIENCE, we investigate, and experiment. That is how things are proven, through “Trial and Error,” not guessing games, and fairy-tales.

  4. >>I have seen women without wombs that gave to children.<<

See, that's either a lie or profound ignorance. I'd like to laugh at statements like this, but they're just pitiable.

  5. People confuse religion with spirituality Gods not dead though and His son will be seen one day as all will know He is real and every knee will drop before him

  6. I am saddened as I read stories like this: No name, no date, no place… unrelated picture… stories that have been going around the Net for years with basically the same storyline. Having served with the American military, I have the highest respect for so many of them, and very few would mock another for believing in God. It is not that I do not believe that God is able to do so much more that we can ever ask or imagine (and I have personally experienced situations not so short of the above), but I am afraid that such stories are often made-up just for the cheap thrill of mocking Christians.

    • There are plenty of legitimate reasons to mock Christianity, but stories like this are made up BY Christians

      • This story was not made up by a Christian. It was made up by an Atheist to poke fun at gullible Christian’s.

  7. Go ahead and admit me then because the God I serve is known for doing the impossible. I believe God!!!!

  8. I too am a Christian. Everything is possible with God, I’ve seen it and its too late for someone to tell me He doesn’t exist.
But this story, has a lot of holes in it, I strongly believe its made-up.
Please Christians, don’t try to defend the Holy Bible, because The Holy Word will defend himself. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but (His) words shall not pass away. I believe God!

    • “Everything is possible with God”, you say. And yet your god never seems to show up or actually DO anything when help is needed.

  9. I can’t say if this story is real, but I can’t say God is real and he is always there when I need him, God gives free will to everyone its up to us to believe God or not, God will give you every chance to get to know him even till the end, but it’s your free will it’s up to you, being a Christian don’t mean everything will go your way it means you believe in the one true God and he helps you get through the bad times, he gives you peace joy love and understanding and blessings, all I know when I didn’t know God I was always mad angry and scare, but when I finally give my life to God I got filled with all that, love, joy, peace, it didn’t come all at once it come from getting to know his word and doing his word, so god did supernational things in my life cause when I didn’t no him I could not or anyone or anything give me the joy I have now, ty jesus

    • You’re sort of slow on that whole “burden of proof” thing, aren’t you? It’s not my job to provide evidence that no god exists. If you believe there’s a god, it’s up to you to provide evidence — and not just evidence that “suggests” there “might” be a god — it has to be measurable, observable, physical, and convincing enough for the most skeptical OUTSIDE observer.

  10. Ray – I must agree that if someone made up this story – they are a fool! When reading this story – I too thought it must be a fabrication, which got me searching the internet for it’s origin. This is how I came across your blog. Reading through the comments above and your replies – it is easy to see that you definitely need rock solid evidence. Also – If I read some of your comments correctly, you also know that this universe and all things surrounding us did not just appear from nothing. Even scientists who do not believe in the God of the Bible believe in intelligent design. Paul from the Bible wrote a letter to believers and nonbelievers in Rome. (at that time – it was the capital of many gods including the an leader who though he was a descendent of the gods.)

Paul writes that all people are with out excuse in knowing the One True God. God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen all around us. It is easy to see there has to be someone or something with intelligence to at least start this process. If you are truly interested in the finding the truth – I would start reading what scientist are writing about intelligent design. Now, yes – there are also hundreds of scientists that believe in “kaa-boom” process of it just happened – But if you deductively read through their arguments you will find many deficient hypothesizes ( as you describe the Bible and those that believe in it).

I am a believer in God (“duh – who would have ever guess that”). And I have seen rock solid evidence that He can preform miracles like the one described in this story – While I do not know if this story is true – let me share some real life stories I have seen and experience.

I was with a group of students, leading a summer bash type event in a small neighborhood park in Vermont. The park had picnic shelters but we had over 100 kids from the neighborhoods attending and there was not a shelter that could hold that many kids if it rained. On our last day, at 7:30 am there came a large thunderstorm. The forecast for the day called for rain and lighting to last all day. We as a group wanted to see the kids one more time and did not want to call off the events, so we prayed to God.

It continued to rain as we drove to the park – but we kept praying. As we opened the doors to our vehicles the rain came to a sudden stop. Not even a drizzle. The clouds remained but no rain, drizzle, moist mist or thunder. We held our last day events as planned and then had lunch – About 1pm, we started to pack up and it began to drizzle. When we loaded the vehicles and starting driving, the rain came down and never stopped until about 5 pm.

Now yes – you may said that what happen was a coincidence and I could understand that thought – but for the rain to suddenly stop as the doors of our vehicles opened and not even a slow down of rain to a drizzle was proof to me that our God is real.

Let me share one other story that happen several years ago -We are friends with a pediatric doctor and his wife. They have four children and their third child had cancer and was dealing with cancer since she was two years old. Their fourth child (an adopted boy from Ethiopia) is the same age as my youngest son (about 4 years old). On a Sunday morning the wife comes to our small group Bible study and breaks down in tears. Their youngest son has a large tumor in his chest. The thoughts of another child having to deal with cancer has just broken her heart. Our small group prayed for God to His will in this child’s life and to give strength to the family. They were going back to the hospital on Monday to get a sample of the tumor and send it off for testing.

On Monday – around noontime, I get a call form the mom – The tumor was gone! They could not find anything. They had the x-rays from Friday and compared them to the x-rays today and the tumor was totally gone.

I do not expect you to believe that these stories are true, but I have experienced these first hand and know them to be accurate. Yes there is a God and no He is not the god of every religion.

He allows us to make a decision in our lives as to believe and trust Him or continue our thoughts of denying Him. That is your choice and I’m thankful we live in a country that allows this freedom.

I was not raised in a Christian home so I have been on the doubting side as you. If you truly want to know the truth, I will ask you do one thing… stop making jokes about God and do real research. The facts are there! All throughout history you can find them. I do not read novels and fiction. I’m very skeptical toward ALL news media. I work at a nuclear power plant and I am driven to know solid facts not just theories. If you choose to search out the facts – I’m confident in the power of God that you will find them and come to know and trust Him as I do…

I wanted to share some of the rock solid evidences that God has shown me. My email address is real and I will be glad to discuss anything privately via email but you do not need to write me if you truly commit yourself to searching the truth. God is Truth and He will open the doors for you to find Him. Like any good research – you have to put away any past views and truly seek for facts. If you choose to do so – You will find out God is Real! – Your Choice…

    • I didn’t notice your comment awaiting approval until just now. I only approved it because you took the time to write a coherent (albeit long) comment, properly punctuated with paragraph breaks and didn’t seem to resort to ad hom attacks. I don’t censor people just because I disagree. But I do disagree and I will leave it at that for any future visitors to read through.

  11. Hi Guys, I am a devout christian and as soon as I heard this story I thought, thats great if its true. Just for the record I believe God can do anything. That aside I need proof that this is real. Until then its a nice story,
I didnt check my brain out when I received Jesus.

  12. This story does not prove that god exists all it proves is that you can drive a car without an engine-(I am a Qualified Mechanic of 12 years Australia)

    • I’m just saying.. Aussies really might be able to drive a car around without an engine. Y’all are the next step in evolution.

  13. The thing I can’t stand about modern Christians is the rampant gullibility. Faith is not without evidence. That said fact check. As for science there is just as much gullibility in the science community. Science recently proved something does not exist unless some something sees it. They concluded that if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around not only does it not make sound it doesn’t exist and no one bats an eye because it was proven in a laboratory. So apparently according to pop science we have proven our world is non existent outside of what we see in front of us. So because I can’t see new York it doesn’t exist. Yeah right.

    • I suspect you are over-simplifying or misinterpreting something you read somewhere. Since you don’t provide a citation, there’s nothing to discuss.

  14. While I very much doubt the story is true, I have yet to find anything on snopes, hoax slayer or other urban legend sites discounting it. Still looking, though.

    • You won’t find anything on snopes or elsewhere debunking this fabricated tale, any more than you would need to check snopes to see if unicorns or leprechauns are real.

  15. As a Christian and I know God does not go around fixing engines to convert troops. I also know that God does not even go around interfering in the affairs of man with huge natural disasters, contrary to what one may have heard.

“The lord was not in the wind,
The lord was not in the earthquakes,
The lord was not in the fire,
The LORD is in a still and gentle whisper.”
    1 Kings 19:11

    Its a whisper of HOPE.

In other words, GET REAL CHRISTIANS!!! This story is nothing more than a religious urban legend, that does more harm than good to even have a debate over such childish things. It makes us Christians look and sound STUPID.

  16. I read this story on a Facebook post and started a little research of my own. One would think that a reporter somewhere would want to chase up a story like this. Especially because there are many witnesses to corroborate the incident. So far nothing and that is how I ended up here. I believe it to be fake. I have no evidence. But my intuition tells me it’s fake. I grew up in the Christian faith but am appalled at the modern day wishy-washy Christian approach. God is my Aladdin’s lamp. Make a wish show some faith and it will be given unto you. And that’s it folks. One would think that there most be many millions of Christians throughout this world. If we all practised our faith why is this world in such a mess?? Oh sorry my mistake we have God on our side…. I guess we just lack the faith. And I’m not being sarcastic either.

Ray want’s proof…. perhaps he might find some if well meaning Christian folks actually did more than just quote bible verses
