“Freedom is measured by the distance between church and state”

Tolerance, eh? bwaahahahahaha

It happened yet again.  Someone else on Facebook decided to unfriend me.

This is what I posted:

Hey all you Christians (spat he with a sneer), what the fuck is wrong with you people? You idiots are making a rally intending to challenge something that does not even exist! Damned ignorant fucktards.

With a link to this article at World Nut Daily:  Christians to take ‘hate crimes’ challenge to Holder

And someone responded with:

Ray I am a Christian and while I support your right to say anything you wish and live any way you wish , it really bothers me that this ended up being broadcast on my Facebook page.
…If you want tolerance for your beliefs you should extend to others tolerance for their beliefs..

If she had read the article that was linked she would have seen intolerance in action, which is why I posted it.

I am sooooo  sick and tired of Christians telling me that I need to be tolerant.  WTF??   Christianity, at its core, is the epitome of INtolerance.  Why should I let them get away with their lies and abuse simply because it is under the banner of “religion”?    Not all religious ideas deserve tolerance, and not all religious people deserve tolerance, either.

Am I a bit intolerant of certain kinds of Christians and certain kinds of Christianity?   You betcha!    But it’s an earned intolerance.  As I commented under the original FB post, I don’t think most Christians actually understand how hateful and hurtful their doctrines are, and what about their doctrines makes me so angry at them.  It’s not like it isn’t obvious.  It’s not like it hasn’t been explained repeatedly over the years.   They simply stick their fingers in their ears, scream “lalalalalalala” and pretend not to hear, so that they can continue to repeat their bullshit.

To them it’s a doctrine, and a belief.  It is an abstract concept to them about ‘others’.    To me, however, it is MY LIFE they are attacking and abusing.   I have a right to tell them to fuck off.   Loudly.  And Publicly.

Maybe your comment would have been received better if you had stated it in “polite” words and left the cussing out of it.

Well, maybe, but why should we always be the ones to ‘behave’ when others are spouting horribly hateful and hurtful things and it’s seen as OK because it’s their “religion”? It’s damned hard to keep taking the high road when all the hatred and nastiness are tolerated, even approved, even ~legislated~ in the name of somebody’s god! I completely understand why Ray used the words he did.

Tolerance and consideration need to be a two-way street. Otherwise in time they become a dead end.

Wow…. just “WOW”. I should be “polite”?

Just for one blatantly clear example: if you’ve been following the whoopla over the atheist billboard campaigns. Not a one of those ads has been phrased in anything resembling “attack mode”. Yet wherever they’ve been put up, Christians have become verbally abusive, defensive, and generally hateful.

In the area of same-sex marriage and marriage equality, it is the right-wing Christians who have deliberately lied outright and played against people’s fears about what “might happen if we let them get married”. Christians apparently don’t realize they have no right to “let” other people do anything.
