“Freedom is measured by the distance between church and state”

10 Mar

One of “those” days

Woke this morning with tingling all over.   The kind that marks the start of a really good rant-worthy day, when I  just want to get up into everyone’s face and tell them exactly what I’m thinking.  On edge, but not sure why.   :-D

Fortunately at my age I have learned a few things:

  • It’s usually not the best idea to actually spout the first thought that comes to mind
  • It’s probably not even wise to be around the kind of people who cause such thoughts to come to mind
  • It’s always best to remember that people (bless their hearts) are usually doing the best they can with what (little) they have

Alonzo Fyfe has an interesting and articulate post that touches on some of my angst, about the stupid rules of religion based on a “morality” invented by humans and ascribed to whatever God those people invented.

The Blair War Crimes Foundation wants to bring Tony Blair to trial for his war crimes.   Good.  How long before Bush, Cheney, and others in the U.S. are likewise brought to trial for their war crimes?

And here is this little piece, Fury erupts as gay couples are given residence rights at an Israeli college.  Bravo to the school; one finger salute to the idiots who lack a clue.

How about a naked guy on a cross?  (no, not him … another one)

The Wall Street Journal says Islam Needs to Prove It’s a Religion of Peace.   Boy, ain’t that the truth!

There is a certain schizophrenia among many Muslims who seem to believe that it is acceptable to teach hatred and violence in the name of their religion, while at the same time expecting the world to respect Islam as “a religion of peace, love and harmony.”

This “schizophrenia” is not too unlike the insanity of Christians who don’t understand why, after condemning gays and lesbians to hell, those gays and lesbians rise up in anger against them.   All religions share a certain breed of cognitive dissonance here.   It is irrational to invoke divine judgment against innocent people while not expecting those condemned to speak up in their own defense.  Some Mormons and other Christians seemed genuinely astounded that the gay community would respond as they did after the passage of Proposition 8.

But then, most Christians don’t understand that “Jesus Loves You” is a message underscored by the exact same breed of hateful terrorism coming from Islam.  The entire message of the Gospel, the “good” news, is that “Jesus loves you but if you fail to love him back in exactly the way our book and our leaders prescribe, then you deserve to spend eternity in hell, and we will take every step possible to make your remaining days on this earth as hellish as we can.”

It’s a man-made religion, like all the others.   Why would any thinking adult willing abdicate his/her own intelligence and rational thought to give obedience to a man-made set of rules and fairy tales — and especially a set of rules from antiquity without relevance in today’s world?     I did it when I was younger because I didn’t know any better, so I have to assume that others relinquish their autonomy for the same reason — they don’t know any better.  Such people should be pitied, but not believed, and definitely not followed.

I should invent my own religion, except that religion depends upon the existence of the supernatural and unproven/unproveable outrageous claims, and I haven’t the time or energy or interest  to invent such things.
