Just Get On The Damn Bus!
Okay, so the Atheist Bus campaign is growing! Bravo! U.K., U.S.A., Spain, Italy, and now Canadians want to join in the fun! The folks down in Australia seem to be having a difficult time getting the ads approved, but they’ll come around eventually.
This report from U.K. is interesting. Apparently one of the drivers has a problem driving a bus with an advert that implies there is no God. Tough. He’s paid to drive the bus, not approve the advertisements. I’d wager he probably doesn’t use or like some of the other products advertised on the buses, either, so why should he be allowed to shirk off his job or expect special accommodation so as not to drive a bus with this ad?
Hanne Stinson, chief executive of the British Humanist Association, said: “I have difficulty understanding why people with particular religious beliefs find the expression of a different sort of beliefs to be offensive.
“I can’t understand why some people seem to have a different attitude when it comes to atheists.”
Indeed! Why would any Christian have a problem with these advertisements? The ads are not offensive to anyone, and they don’t promote violence, hatred, or discrimination toward people of other beliefs. They encourage thought and a willingness to just enjoy THIS life. After all, there is no life after this one, so we might as well stop worrying about some other life and make the most of this one.
