Happy Blasphemy Day!

This came to me as I was in the ‘library’, catching up on some paperwork, and working on a crossword puzzle.
Q:   Why are religious people so annoying?
A:   Because most of them are in sects.
I love when I make myself laugh out loud.
The point of Blasphemy Day is not directly to be rude and offensive to [...]

Monday is here!

This is going to be a busy day, and I’m okay with that.
The b.p. and depression meds are settling in, and I had a fairly good night’s sleep.  And I’m feeling less overwhelmed by other things.  So that’s good.
If I could, I would spend a LOT more time focused on social issues:  marriage equality, separation [...]

Just read a book already!

I noticed that I haven’t bought many books lately.  I have now rectified that by ordering

I also ordered

I don’t believe in evolution, either

I posted this to my Facebook page, but it’s still nagging at me so I’ll expand on it here.
It seems there is going to be a folk music festival in North Carolina.   Each year the festival designates a charity to which proceeds are directed.   Last year it was a children’s charity.   This year they decided [...]

We function by law, not by beliefs!

Oh good lord!  Supreme Prejudice: Scalia Says Government Can Promote Religion
What an ass!   How can he be considered qualified to sit on the Supreme Court after bullshit like this:
The U.S. Supreme Court is gearing up to come back into session Oct. 5, and just in time for that, Justice Antonin Scalia has decided to pop [...]

Stop talking about your gayness!

Oh my fucking GAWD!!!
I’m on several knitting lists, which are populated by men and women, gay and straight, of all sorts of religious, political, and national alliances.    Whatever.
One of the most prolific knitters on a particular list is a man of exceeding talent, a fun sense of humor, and is almost CONSTANTLY answering questions, providing [...]

Without logic or evidence, you can’t support a belief in God

This is another awesome video from Qualia soup.   This one explains why it it impossible to argue for God.

Because God cannot be described or defined, there is no argument for God. The Bible, Koran, and other texts are full of attributes and claims made about God (many of which are mutually exclusive and contradictory, [...]

I think, therefore …

One of my Facebook contacts posted a rather ugly and unfortunate Bible passage today on Facebook:

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish [...]

Hey! Why are you still here???

Didn’t you know that if you’re a Christian you’re supposed to be gone by now?    Yeah, check it out.   This is a direct cut-and-past from that linked page:
.
WARNING:
Will The Rapture take place on Monday-September 21st 2009,
at The Last Trump of Rosh Hashanah?

FALL 2009 – THE END?

IS THIS THE TIME OF THE [...]

And yet they let these idiots vote!

I found an interesting bit on Ed’s blog: This Explains Sally Kern describing the abysmal results of a survey of high school students in Oklahoma.  They were polled on a set of questions drawn from the Naturalization Test that all immigrants are required to pass in order to become citizens.
As noted in this article,
Charles N. [...]

Why Huckabee is wrong for America

A very good summary as to why Mike Huckabee would be a horrible choice for America.
For progressives, a President Huckabee is a frightening prospect. Beneath Huckabee’s affability is a religious zealot who would threaten America with a Christian theocracy. Huckabee opposes women’s reproductive health, same-sex marriage, and civil unions. And with an irony that is [...]

“Storm”

A performance of “Storm” by Tim Minchin.   Good to think about.  Those who get it, already got it.  Those who should likely won’t.

Robert Reich Explains the Public Option

C’mon, people.   We need to get behind the Public Option.  We simply cannot afford to allow the drug companies and the insurance companies to stay in control.  They are supposed to be working for us, not against us.
Check this out.

Birth Control Pills to be ILLEGAL??

This is insane, but it’s from Florida, so what do you expect? Anti-Choice Floridians Peddling Constitutional Amendment to Criminalize Birth Control Pill (see also here)
Yep, you read it right.   Some right-wing idiots are trying to push a “Personhood Amendment” into the State Constitution, declaring that even a zygote is a “person”, and therefore as a [...]

Dad would have been 86 today

My dad’s birthday was 14 September 1923.
He would have been 86 today.  But he died in 1987 at age 64.  He’s been gone 23 years.
Some would say, “he’s in heaven”, trying to be generous (or Universalist).
Others would say, “He didn’t give his life to Jesus, so he’s in hell.”
I don’t believe either position.   He’s dead.  [...]

Preparing for Blasphemy Day 2009

In just over a couple weeks, it will be 30 September 2009 — Blasphemy Day!
I wrote about this way back in March, but that was a while ago, so now is a good time to bring it up again to remind everyone.
The whole point of Blasphemy Day is in response to the U.N. effort to [...]

Christians hide the welcome mat!

Our local village economy, like the national economy, is hurting.  A regional religious group wants to hold a festival in our little town, have their little ceremony, and spend time AND MONEY in our village shops while they are visiting. Yippeee!     Oh, but wait… they aren’t Christian.  They are Pagans and Wiccans.  Oh NO!   We [...]

Dallas-Ft. Worth MCCs respond

After yesterday’s post, I’m happy to see an article from the churches who put up the positive billboards
What would Jesus do?
For some people, that’s just a slogan on a jelly bracelet. But for a coalition of five LGBT churches in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, it is the basis for what they hope will be productive [...]

How DARE they!!!!

This is AWESOME! These are part of a Billboard campaign by several congregations of Metropolitan Community Church in the Dallas, TX area.  And, can you believe it — there are some people who are offended by this!

From the article:

Christine Lutz was traveling down Interstate-30, just east of Fort Worth, when she came face to face [...]

For lack of a “Why”

This just makes me sad.  I was not raised on Reading Rainbow, but knew about it.  After 26 years, the books will be closed.
‘Reading Rainbow’ Reaches Its Final Chapter
The show’s run is ending, Grant explains, because no one — not the station, not PBS, not the Corporation for Public Broadcasting — will put up the [...]
