If Christ be not risen, then … your faith is also vain.

Well, there you have it:
I Cor 15
1  Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2  By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3  For I delivered unto [...]

No, really… I was NOT praying!

It’s just that sometimes good things happen.  And those good things just happen to coincide to counter specific needs.
Yesterday (Monday) I was feeling rather a bit stressed.  Quite, in fact.   The rent is due on the First of the Month, which would be tomorrow.   And sales have been down, so it has been a “shy [...]

Double-standards

A.J. Papandrea writes in Oh my God, atheists want to speak out:
THESE days, holding an opinion or a belief is far from frowned upon. That is unless that belief is theism, or rather a lack thereof. I find so often, being an atheist, that you must tread carefully around any topic that incorporates some form [...]

Would Jesus Knit?

I’m flummoxed by this conversation recounted by Franklin (He’s an AWESOME knitter and a well-known thoughtful blogger).   Go read his post and subsequent comments, then come back.
Isn’t that sad?   And for a twenty-something to be that sheltered and narrow-minded.   I’d be afraid to visit her church and be exposed to such infectious ignorance.  And yes, [...]

Am I invisible now?

How odd!
At least 4-5 times a week, for the last 2.5 years since I moved here,  I take a walk to the corner market (about 8 blocks away, roughly 20-30 minutes around trip).  And invariably, when the dogs are outside, I hear about it.   The dog two doors down starts barking as I leave my [...]

Sunday, huh?

Well, of COURSE it is SUNday.   I can look out the window and see the sun!
My latest favorite breakfast:

1 cup water
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
dash salt (optional)
1 4-ounce fruit cup, drained (drink the juice/packing syrup, don’t dump it)

Bring water to boil, stir in oats, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt, reduce heat.  [...]

So who are you, anyway?

This is the post where I ask you to do something!
I just looked at my stats:
So far in the month of March there have been 40152 direct requests for http://www.raywhiting.com/MyLife (this main blog page), and yet there’s less than a dozen of you visitors actually taking the time to announce your presence (not counting all [...]

Creationists’ Damage to Christianity

wow… just WOW!
Phil Plait, creator of Bad Astronomy, in his blog post entitled “Creationism is Bad Religion” says what I’ve been saying for a long time — namely, that people can personally believe whatever they want, but they cannot and should not make laws affecting me based on their superstitions.  He briefly argues that not [...]

Superstition lives … dammit!

A 9-year old girl was playing baseball with friends on a vacant lot owned by the city. After hitting the ball, running toward first base, she disappears.  Schwoop! Gone!   A playmate saw her hand waving from a hole in the ground.   An old septic tank had collapsed, leaving a hole 16-20 feet deep.   She landed [...]

Writer’s remorse??

continued from Wed… (on death and dying)
Y’know how it is — you’ve written what you wanted to write, sealed the envelope and stuck the stamp into place.   And then it hits you…. “Did I say the right thing?”
As I mentioned Wednesday, the man who adopted Hazel after Katrina is dying.  So I went to market [...]

Speech must remain free

Y’all already know how much I value free speech.   And I’ve commented more than once on the latest U.N. resolution (to make religion immune to critical examination and discussion) put forth by the very people whose religion is so offensive that it must be examined and spoken against.   One of Pat Condell’s recent posts addresses [...]

It’s YOUR fault I have to kill you!

That’s basically what the latest U.N. Resolution is saying.
GENEVA (AP) — The U.N.’s top human-rights body approved a proposal by Muslims nations Thursday urging passage of laws around the world to protect religion from criticism.
The proposal put forward by Pakistan on behalf of Islamic countries — with the backing of Belarus and Venezuela — had [...]

Tentative Good News for Texas!

The Texas Freedom Network rep has been live-blogging the hearings in Austin.  According to the latest post the Texas SBOE has voted to remove the “strenghts and weaknesses” language from the science curriculum.
This morning the board slammed the door on bringing creationism into classrooms through phony “weaknesses” arguments. But then board members turned around and [...]

Cats — for healing?

I’ve written about CryBaby before — he was born during the aftermath of Hurricane Ike.  I’m totally guessing: Mama Cat was waddlingly pregnant just before the storm, and a few weeks afterward the neighbors reporting they were harboring 3 of 5 kittens Mama Cat deposited in their yard.   She brought one of them to my [...]

On death and dying

Very interesting.
During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina I was among a small group of others who stayed in town during and after the storm.  One person I met was named Erik.   He and I were taken by Judge Jerry Winsberg to Baton Rouge, while the National Guard loaded the rest of the bunch into a [...]

self-righteous fools piss me off!

okay, so we had Capt. Sully’s plane go down in the Hudson. Every life saved.  No God required.
Then the guy I mentioned yesterday — the pilot who a few years ago panicked over a malfunctioning fuel guage.  He ignored emergency procedures and instead starting praying.  16 people died.  He got 10 years for it.
And now [...]

So many news bits

Okay, there’s been a bunch of hot button issues coming up lately, and it is difficult to know which one(s) to address and in which order.
Part of my frustration today comes from still hurting from yesterday’s blow to the head and body.  I recognize that my front door is a flat surface, vertical plane.   But [...]

Terrific Tuesday!

Well, okay, not entirely terrific, but better than it could be.   I was expecting to feel much more sore and awful today after yesterday’s “mishap” (see yeterday) and the bruising isn’t nearly as bad as I expected.  Barely noticeable, although my head still feels sorta funny.
Plenty of links and discussions to be made, but not [...]

I’ve been mortally wounded (sorta)

too lazy to cross post.   It’s over at Knitterman.
