Stuff I don’t understand

I just heard on the evening news that HUD is going to take over financial assistance from FEMA to provide housing for about hurricane evacuees in the Houston area displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita — there are approximately 100,000 evacuees in the Houston area, of which about 35,000 are on the assistance rolls.
Uhhh… HUH?????
Okay, [...]

Shooting Update

A week ago I shared with you the story of the guy in Pasadena who saw two burglars taking things from his neighbor’s home.  He confronted and shot them.  Today it is being reported that there are still no charges being filed against him, largely because the police are still compiling their report to be [...]

Another day older and … uhhh…

well, whatever. I don’t want to be deeper in debt, and I sure as hell ain’t gonna SING about that.
In case there are readers here who aren’t readers there, here is a picture of the latest shirt model I posted at my CafePress shop:

This is to answer the annoying offensive rude stupid ignorant [...]

The phone is ringing, and I don’t recognize the number,
All Caller ID says is, “NAME UNAVAILABLE“.
Please help me figure out who is calling and what they want
Whattaya do?   You go to  http://whocalled.us/ and type in the mysterious number showing on your caller box.
I didn’t know it existed, but I’ve been getting those annoying calls [...]

4:11 a.m. PST, 27 Nov 1954

Picture this…. on Friday evening, the 26th day of November in the year 1954 of the Common Era, a woman sits on her suitcase by the front door, waiting for the Friday Night boxing on television to be finished. She was ready to leave, he insisted they wait until the fights were over.
Finally the [...]

Too good to be true, I guess.

Last night I was tickled pink to actually wash AND dry THREE LOADS of socks and unders and hankies and t-shirts.   I was probably pushing my luck, but I took a chance and washed my bedsheets and pillowslips, along with more hankies and some small things.
DAMN…. friggin dryer decided it was no longer in a [...]

Well, NOW I just feel stupid!

Y’all know my dryer has not been heating properly, right?   It’s been a couple months at least now since it quit getting hot.   I’ve been washing in the machine and drying on hangers and wherever I could find a place.
And I STILL believe hang-drying is better for the environment and better for the pocket book, [...]

It’s okay to be angry

And it is okay to express one’s anger.  I am angry about a lot of things in this country, and I am frustrated about even more things that I have so little control over.  Why?  Because Americans have been legislatively neutered and rendered impotent.
Most of American business is owned by foreign corporations and foreign private [...]

No Black Friday for me!

It is just after 3:30 a.m. as I write this.   (stress, can’t sleep).   I went over to a local news channel’s Web site and there I found a poll.  After providing my response, I clicked the button and saw the results:

Well, THANKGAWD FOR SMALL FAVORS.  The overwhelming majority of responders (at this early hour, anyway) [...]

THAT was AMAZING!

I started watching the National Dog Show, as I usually do on Thanksgiving, and started to feel drowsy.  So I went back to bed.
It was only barely just over an hour, but I woke feeling so refreshed, I could have sworn it had been hours and hours.   And the dreams I had!  WOW!!   Some were [...]

Thanksgiving Day

“In everything give thanks” (I Thess. 5:18)
Thank gawd it doesn’t say FOR everything!
No, seriously, the principle of gratitude isn’t that you have to be thankful FOR all the details of your circumstances, all those annoying bumps and ditches.  But it is important as you travel through the shit, to remain thankful that [...]

WARNING! WARNING!

Do NOT, under any circumstances, allow yourself to catch a nasty cold within two days before or after a major weather system passing over!
We’ve been up in the 80s for a while (and I have NO idea what THAT was about), but the cold front is passing over just now, and I am sooooo miserable.
Let [...]

Am I becoming a ‘conservative’??

And just what *exactly* does “conservative” really mean, anyway?
In many ways I am a strong Libertarian.  I believe people should be allowed to do in their personal lives what they wish to do, as long as it breaks no reasonable laws (we know some laws are just plain stupid), harms no one (in person or [...]

snorfle

Lordie!    Went to bed at 11:00, and somehow managed to get to sleep.  There was one amazing position in bed that I found where I could breathe freely — without dripping, dribbling,  snuffling, snorting, or whistling in my throat with each breath.  Finally drifted off to sleep.  A hard, fast sleep.
Every now and again I [...]

The weather is changing

Guess how I can tell?
Everything hurts. Which means the weather will be changing sharply in the next 24-48 hours. Even parts that don’t usually hurt are hurting. Today the temperature is 80+° but on Thursday the high isn’t expected to reach even up to 60°. How sucky is that? My [...]

Why racism continues

The backstory:
Recently a guy called police to report a burglary in progress at a neighbor’s home. He said he was going to get a gun and shoot the burglars. The police told him to stay inside his home, and NOT to shoot. He went outside with a loaded gun and shot [...]

Tuesday Snots

I should know better.
It happens almost every time.
And yet I continue to do it.
Virtually every family gathering of more than 2-3 people I end up sick within 2-3 days afterward.  Not sick-nigh-unto-death sick, just sick enough to be uncomfortable, which in turn puts me in a sad depressed mood, which makes me feel even worse.
Saturday [...]

Thinksgiving

Thinksgiving
I am thinkful for the many blessings in my life — there are many, many things for which to be thinkful.
Can’t be thankful if you can’t be thinkful. Gotta think about what you have, and what you enjoy and appreciate.
Think about it.
Yesterday I went out to my ex-wife’s house to share in their [...]

Show me your underpants!!!

Well, okay, not really.  But this article pissed me off.   The lady just wanted to hang up her sheets to dry in the sunshine.  You know what that is?  There’s this big glowing ball out in the sky, and it is really bright, and it makes light and heat for everyone.  For FREE.  Every day.  [...]

Language is such a gift!

So, this college professor turned the corner and heads down the hall of his campus, only to find a young man kneeling in front of a door, his hands gripping the handle, his lips moving ever-so-slightly. For all appearances, the young man is praying. The professor quietly comes behind the young man and [...]
