eBay or Etsy?

I have a bunch of yarns (both in singles and in 3-skein kits) ready to go online and sell quickly. I am wondering if anyone has realistic selling experience with BOTH eBay and Etsy. Etsy.com is a sales-point for mostly hand-made goods.  By this time tomorrow I will have a link to my [...]

I want to try these…

Coil shoes, springy shoes, bouncy shoes, zcoil shoes

I’ve seen these on people’s feet from time to time and wondered what sort of weird trendy fad it was.  I saw them featured on a local talk show this morning, with the local shop person describing how they work and why they are good for people with [...]

You MUST be joking!!!!

eBay: Used Starter Socks Great for Jogging or Working Out (item 150063852658 end time Nov-30-06 12:55:11 PST)
WTF?   Someone is selling a USED pair of socks?  Oh My Gawd!

Sometimes eBay isn’t the answer

Twice now I have discovered I have made unwise choices in bidding on things on eBay, and later found the items were readily available elsewhere for less money. Neither was particularly expensive, and i don’t feel bad for getting what I got (including the glow-in-the-dark yarn, which I now see is available elsewhere for [...]

Nice Birthday

Yesterday I turned 52.  Each of my four children called to extend birthday greetings.  I don’t recall a time when all four have called on the same birthday, so that was very cool.   Usually it is one or both daughters, and I might get a card in the mail.
I guess I’m the odd-ball, but I [...]

Grampa’s Time to Teach…?

My son brought his girls over today so the oldest one could learn how to use the knitting machine.
I started with a latchet tool, manually showing how the needles move out, loops move behind the latch, and new loops are formed and pulled through the old ones.   Very cool.  Then I showed them the [...]

silly me!

The other day I mentioned the possibility of knitting a mandala … as if it had never been done.
And now, with the passing of several days, the rest of my brain cells have kicked in and are now engaged.    What was I thinking?   If you have ever seen a Fair Isle knitted Tam o’Shanter, [...]

Black Friday ?

Not for me! The media has been hyping Black Friday for a while now — in the U.S. it is the day after Thanksgiving when EVERYone (supposedly) rushes to the malls to begin their Christmas shopping.
Not me! I won’t be out in that mess! I do not purchase Christmas [...]

Giving Thanks

Today in the U.S. is Thanksgiving Day … celebrating the abundance of our country.  Well, that’s the theory, anyway.  There’s a lot of misinformation and revisionist history regarding The First Thanksgiving, pretty much the same as with most Observed Days, but the basic concept of Giving Thanks is still a pretty good idea.  Giving Thanks [...]

Enough already! I’m MOVING!!!

Well, no, I don’t mean I’m packing up and moving to a different address.  Gawd, after all the hassles trying to straight the gas bill for this place, I wouldn’t risk that!
No, I mean, I’m moving the contents of my house around.  This just is NOT working.  I find myself constantly moving from the living [...]

Busy Friday

Wednesday night I was up late finishing this:

When I woke yesterday morning, after knitting all day and all evening Wednesday, both of my hands were numb and tingly and stiff and sore.   Ugh.   Granted, I hand-knit lots and lots, but this was mostly machine knitting and manipulating, so I was using different motions.
Today I’m working [...]

It (mostly) worked!!!

Okay, here ya go:

This is a close up of the “Midnight Math” project, started and finished today, based on notes I scribbled in the middle of the night. Basically I am pleased, but it was a learning process through much of the day. There are things I will do differently, but I [...]

Midnight Math?

(apologies to devout Catholics for that title)
I managed to get back to sleep, dozing in and out for a couple more hours and woke to the NPR news on the radio telling me about a threatened tsunami in Japan, following a major earthquake.
Returning to my computer this morning, fully awake now, I see I filled [...]

pseudoephedrine…

Excellent at relieving sinus pressure…
Is known for its “non-drowsy formula” …
Should not be taken (by me, anyway) after mid-day or else I go to bed at normal time and wake up 2-3 hours later bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, with ideas all a-fluttering around in my head, ready and rarin’ to go!

Bummer, eh? [...]

Better this evening

I finally succumbed to “better living through chemistry” (I took a pseudoephedrine pill) and the pressure relieved mostly.   I wish I could shut this damned humbuzzing off but I don’t imagine that will ever happen.  Anyway, I do feel better enough that I was able to take out a project I started a couple years [...]

A Thousand Tons of Gravel

is borne upon my shoulders.
The weather is changin with a strong front pressing forward today, crossing over us tonight sometime.  I can feel the air pressure changing around me by the minute, my ears are ringing constantly now (yes, that damned hum-buzzing sound is increasing), and I feel the weight of a thousand tons of [...]

A Walk, a Ride, a Leisurely Stroll

all in one day.
Actually, it was a quick brisk walk to make groceries before the crowds hit the local Kroger’s.  Then a little later I rode my bike down to my daughter’s in-law’s place for my SiL to cut the rod of my secondary tension mast to the antenna don’t scrape the ceiling.   And [...]

Deadline met!

Woo-hoo…. ain’t it a great feeling?
I wanted to have a revised website up (www.KNITIVITY.com) by the end of today, and I met that goal (with just a few hours to spare), including posting TWO patterns, new yarn chart, and some other goodies.
I’m not entirely happy with it, but it is functioning and adequate for what [...]

TWO plane crash dreams!

Wow… and just the other day I was musing to myself that I’ve not had so many plane crash dreams.   Uhhh…. yeah, well anyway…….
I had TWO such dreams last night.   In both dreams I was looking out a window (like an apartment complex or motel — large window, maybe one or two storeys off ground [...]

No Really … I love “Für Elise”

But not eleventeen times in a row!!!!
When companies KNOW they keep people on hold for long times, they should CHANGE THE DAMN HOLDING MUSIC at least every week or so, don’t you think?
Oh, wait … let me back up a bit, to the gas company saga.
My gas co. account was “extended” until Nov 10 to [...]
