I Did It!
Yesterday was a fairly good weather day. I have been waffling for a long time about getting back to walking to and from Kroger like I used to do. I just checked MapMyWalk again for the routes I used to walk. Round trip to/from Kroger is 1.7 miles. So coming back would be 0.85 miles.
I took a Lyft to Kroger, and took my rolling walker with me. (Side note: the Lyft driver was very attentive, loaded the walker into his trunk and then retrieved it for me at Kroger. He got a $10 tip for a $6 ride.) Walking around the store collecting what I needed added some distance, so I’m guessing from the time I got out of the Lyft car I walked close to 1.25 miles by the time I reached my front door. when I got about a third of the way home, I paused at the spot I used to take a rest when I would be hauling a granny cart of groceries. This time, though, I took the grocery bags out and I actually sat to rest a few minutes.

Here I am, while resting. Not the best picture of me, but it will do for now, showing me outside in the daylight. LOL
Then four blocks later, Walter hollered at me so I got to stand and chat with him 8 or 10 minutes, which was nice. I’ve not seen him since shortly after the Big Surgery.
As I was approaching my house, I saw Boomer (a neighbor’s dog) down at the other end of my block going into someone else’s yard. By the time I got inside and pulled out a couple pieces of fried chicken to share with BigBoy, Boomer was in my yard waiting to see what I had. So I shared two chicken breasts with BigBoy and Boomer.
After coming in and sitting a while (checking email and such), I got up to fetch a cup of coffee. Whooo-weee, my hips and legs were not ready for another long hike. Stiff and sore. A couple ibuprofen helped, eventually. I had definitely done more walking yesterday that I’ve done in a long time. This morning joints are achey, but the muscles aren’t as bad as I expected them to be, so that’s a good thing.
On the other hand (no pun intended), my right thumb was locking/triggering. Damn it. And I haven’t even done any handwork so I’m not sure why it is doing this. Every time in the last year that I’ve tried to do much knitting or crocheting my thumb acts up, so I have been avoiding any handwork that would stress my thumb. I will be really upset if I can’t knit or crochet. I have things I want to be doing, y’know?
Today will be a mostly Do-Nothing day. I have some work-related tasks, but for the most part I can tend to household stuff and some personal projects. Tomorrow I have to reskein the most recent collection of Blog Reader Specials and then pull some yarn for a prepaid custom job.
Onward into the day I go.
