Post-Op Day 17
Yesterday I had a telehealth visit with the surgeon. It went well, and I’m looking at mid-late December to start working again. I asked me questions, and he answered them. He looked at my incisions and said they’re healing well. I like telehealth visits.
Shortly before my surgery I took a picture looking straight down my midline to show how the hernia was protruding. I just looked straight down my midline and noticed that not only are the bulges no longer bulging, but I can look beyond my belly toward my feet and see other parts (the ‘personals’) sticking out that I could not see before the surgery. I do still have small pads of belly fat, and I can live with that for now, but it’s nice to see things getting back into shape.
This was a week or so before surgery; clearly, anything below my belly was obscured, and my navel was off-center, roughly between the bulge and my right foot; and my navel was beneath the bulging, so I couldn’t actually see it by looking straight down. Now I can see it, and I’m happy it has returned to its proper centerline location. That’s what I was dealing with:

I asked the surgeon yesterday just how many patches and stuff were used, since I was kept overnight because it was more involved than he expected. He said there were just the two holes, but that there was a lot of bowel involved and they had to be sure not to damage the intestine while repairing the hernias. Apparently he was able to get all those parts back in place, since I have no troubles with the bowels. Actually I didn’t have much trouble before the surgery, either, so whatever involvement they saw it wasn’t causing me much grief.
It is forecast to be rainy all day today and most of tomorrow. Thankfully, I have no plans or obligations, so I can continue to rest and let my body heal. I’ll probably work on the shawl project and start thinking how to incorporate the border bands. Beyond that, not much going on here today.
