Sometimes I’m a little slow on the uptake.
Last year I bought a covered butter dish because I wanted something I could leave on the counter, something that would let me see what’s inside (how much), and something that would look nice. So this is what I got. Classy, simple, and functional.
EXCEPT…. once used, you couldn’t just slap a new stick of butter there. After a stick or two, it would have butter smears around the edges, so you’d have to wash it and then you’d have to find something else for the next stick of butter. Plus, being glass, it was prone to breakage and I found myself being far too delicate with it. Finally I went back to butter on a saucer and this got relegated to the back of the cabinet.
Fortunately, a friend had one similar that she loved but hers broke, and I was able to swiftly send this one packing to her. Yayyy.
And just this morning I had a brainstorm. I recently picked up a package of these containers, perfect for one-person servings of leftovers.
These are nearly the same size as the glass butter dish. And guess what!!! A stick of butter fits in perfectly!
So, now I can leave the butter out to get soft (important for toast), but keep it covered. I don’t have to worry about glass breakage, and if one of these gets schmeary with butter, I can just grab a new one for the next stick of butter while the first one gets washed and ready for use the next time around.
Okay, so it is not as sleek-and-stylish as the glass one, but for me it works great. Functionality is more important to me, anyway. Woo-hoo!
Plus, I can now explore other butter options, like whipping a stick of butter with olive oil to make a more spreadable, and possibly healthier, product. Poured into one of these containers would be a perfect fit!
