That’s NOT Persecution
Well, there it is. Kim Davis is in the custody of U.S. Federal Marshal, in jail for contempt of court.
She sincerely believes (or claims to believe) that putting her name on a marriage license, in her role as County Clerk, not as a private citizen, somehow means she is approving the relationship of the two people getting married.
There are far too many articles laying out the details of her two-month refusal to obey the law. You can look it up, if you are unfamiliar.
But it is important to note that she is NOT a victim of anti-Christian Persecution. The judges all along have been careful NOT to tell her she is wrong for her beliefs, only that she is wrong for imposing her beliefs into the public policy of her county and refusing to issue any marriage licenses.
She wants to claim special exemption for her beliefs, which dictate that marriage can only be between one man and one woman, as her position under religious freedom. But to refuse only same-sex couples would bring a charge of discrimination, so she refused to issue marriage licenses to ANYone. At one point yesterday, one of the parties trying to get a license asked her under whose authority she was refusing, and she plainly said, “under God’s authority.” She implemented a ‘no marriage license’ policy in her county, superimposing her religious view into public policy, which is the exact opposite of religious freedom.
