Making themselves more irrelevant.
This seems to be the way of the future, and i’m okay with that. Because clergy are acting as agents of the state when they sign a marriage licence, if they don’t like what civil marriage is becoming, then perhaps they shouldn’t be signing ANY state marriage license.
Personally I think it is silly. Just because same-sex couples are allowed to marry, having a clergy person sign a license for an opposite sex couple doesn’t automatically mean the clergy person endorses every other type of marriage the license allows. He is merely signifying to the state that THIS couple (the couple that he married together) has been married in a religious ceremony and received his blessing on their union.
