The creationism debate
Good golly, the hype and nonsense over the Bill Nye/Ken Ham debate!
You can view it here on You Tube. It’s there until Ham’s camp decides to take it down.
I watched it live streaming, and was mostly impressed with Nye’s ability to stay on topic, while Ham repeatedly kept referring to the Bible as if it were actually a factual, scientific book. It is not.
The debate question was: ““Is creation a viable model of origins in today’s modern scientific era?”
The obvious answer is a resounding NO! There was no “creation” as the term is generally tossed about. There was no point in time when energy and matter, that had not existed just seconds before, suddenly poofed into existence by magic. There is no creation, and there is no creator. In all of real science here is NOTHING that requires an external Creator.
And especially Young Earth Creationism, only a goddamn fucking fool would be so ignorant as to believe such bullshit. I have a sincere desire to shake creationists and tell them to WAKE THE FUCK UP ALREADY. We live in an age when we understand how species came to be, and how WE came to be. There is simply no excuse for believing in creation or some creator. There is not one single point of creationism that has not been debunked.
The reason creationists reject evolution is because they refuse to study it and learn it. They are perfectly happy and content to just read the Bible and pretend “God did it.” But that not only fails to explain anything, it actively prevents further research. Listening to their “arguments” it is clear they do not understand what they are arguing.
Evolution is a FACT, accepted by virtually ALL the scientists in all the relevant fields, regardless of their religion (or lack of religion). Christian, Buddhists, Muslims, Jews, Hindus … they all accept evolution, because it is the most widely researched and most thoroughly documented explanation for how this world is the way it is. Virtually EVERY branch of science accepts evolution. So why don’t creationists? Because they actually believe their Bible is a LITERAL account of origins and arbitrarily reject ANYthing that proves them wrong.
As Ken Ham demonstrated, creationists like to play with words and even redefined them for their own purposes. He repeatedly insisted there is a difference between “observational science” and “historical science”, which is just bullshit. Nye was quick to inform Ham that such distinction does not exist among real scientists. Nye also had to repeatedly stress the difference between Ham’s position and real science, and what real scientists do out in the real world beyond Ham’s little world of fantasy.
