No, abortion is not murder
One of the greatest fallacies of the so-call “pro-life” crowd is the idea that “abortion is murder, because life begins at conception.”
No, life does not “begin” at conception. Life happens all around, all the time. The egg and the sperm already have life — they are living human cells already, and they unite to form another human body. But it’s not a new life. And it’s not even a person until it is born. It’s just a clump of human cells in the process of developing to eventually become a human being.
Until a fetus is born, it is not a separate human person with a life of its own. It is a parasite living off its host mother.
Don’t get me wrong — babies are wonderful. They represent enormous potential, a rich and amazing possibility. It is difficult to imagine why, or under what circumstance, a pregnant woman might not want to bring a child into the world.
But the reality exists that many women are in a situation where they do not want to be a mother, or are unable to provide for a(nother) child.
It’s not my job to evaluate a woman’s choice. I am not obligated to understand it. The law says she is legally allowed to terminate a pregnancy, and my role as a responsible human being is to ensure nobody stands in her way while exercising her rights.

After writing the above paragraphs yesterday, today I got sucked into yet another Facebook thread, with an amazing display of self-righteous idiocy. It’s amazing that the pro-life crowd is almost rabidly offensive, insulting, vulgar, and woefully uneducated in the facts of life.
I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: Facebook is not the place for greatness.
yeah, I know, but it’s great for consolidating the idiocy of the masses and makes great blog fodder. 🙂
