No, it’s not that kind of Pride
Well, apparently, Peter LaBarbera, Matt Barber, Linda Harvey, and the rest of their brain-damaged, hate-stained crowd doesn’t get it. These folks gathered at the headquarters of the Human Rights Campaign to denounce Pride Month.
The sign says “Homosexuality is nothing to be proud of.”
The reality is the sexual orientation (gay OR straight) is not something to be proud of, as if it is something one achieve by choice or effort.
The point of Gay Pride is not pride of achievement but pride of identity. More specifically, we are exhibiting pride of identity as the OPPOSITE of shame imposed by ignorant, narrow society. Just because we are not the same as the majority of people does not mean we are not normal. All the relevant sciences and all the latest research show that homosexuality is part of a very wide spectrum of normal human sexuality. There is nothing shameful, sinful, or ‘dirty’ about being gay or lesbian. Just like there’s nothing special to be proud of by having blue eyes, or being left-handed. It’s just a variation of what is considered normal.
For much of our history, due to lack of information and education, same-sex attracted people have been shunned, abused, denied our rights.
If the religious idiots can’t deal with people who are different, that is THEIR problem. They are the bullies trying to ridicule people who are different. But with each passing generation, more and more people are willing to be genuine about who they are, refusing to be silenced, refusing to stay in their closet.
We can be proud of who we are, and we can refuse to accept the shame those people would wish to heap on us.
