I saw this being passed around on Facebook:
It is supposed to be some sort of inspirational message: “God allows you to be knocked down, so that you will look up (presumably look to God) for help.”
What utter ignorance, on so many counts.
If God is supposedly everywhere, you shouldn’t have to look “up” to find him; he should be lying there next to you at your own level.
If God is so fucking great, he should have been there to catch you if you get tripped or knocked down, but if you are knocked down he obviously either wasn’t paying attention or just couldn’t be bothered to help.
This concept of God is no better than the bully who trips you in the hallway at school just to watch you fall on your face, or a bystander who does nothing to intervene but rubbernecks to laugh.
If this God actually existed, he would be an ass, not someone to look to for help. Thankfully this God does not exist. He’s just a figment of an overactive imagination invented by superstitious people to explain their own sense of helplessness.
If you get knocked down, pick yourself up or call on friends who actually DO care enough to be there when you need them.
